11th Transport Evolution Africa Forum & Expo in KwaZulu-Natal

Media and Public Statement by the Leader of Government Business and MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Siboniso Duma

19 September 2023

Pietermaritzburg: Tomorrow, I will welcome experts, professionals, major role-players and entrepreneurs in the transport and logistics sectors coming from Africa and different parts of the globe.

We are privileged as KwaZulu-Natal to play host to what is billed as Africa’s premier gathering and networking session.

Discussions will be angled to drive Africa’s Industrialization using Special Economic Zones and African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

The expo is framed to enable delegates to share ideas on how to unlock new opportunities in the transport and logistics sector using cutting-edge technology.

Clearly, Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, named after the ANC President and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, continues to be a global platform for the festivals of ideas.

Just after 15h00, I will welcome and present to delegates our two economic zones as sites for haven for investments.

We designated the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone as a site for energy infrastructure and is strategically located around the industrial port.

To date, the zone has attracted billions of investments in various sectors of the economy and in the process generated much-needed jobs.

It is worth noting that Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone has made significant strides in cementing KZN’s place in the global aviation and logistics sector.

Its implementation of world-class infrastructure and support services during the past decades has put this province in good stead to drive international and regional trade.

During the past five years, cargo tonnage handled through Dube Cargo Terminal has doubled.

We extend an invitation to members of the media to attend.
