IN commemoration of National Water Week, Mhlathuze Water MW in partnership with Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone RBIDZ last week held a car wash campaign. Themed #abucket2acar, the campaign created awareness around water conservation and using water sparingly.
RBIDZ employees were invited to take their vehicles to the car wash station while the MW team rendered the services using one bucket of water per car. MW also embarked on an outreach campaign to educate the public about water conservation and protecting water infrastructure against vandalism.
Similar campaigns took place at Junction14 in Richards Bay CBD, where shoppers were asked questions and rewarded with promotional items. The initiative saw a remarkable participation from the public as they came in numbers to answer questions pertaining to illegal water connections and ways of reporting such.
The campaign's significance was to alert individuals that it is vital that water infrastructure and resources are safeguarded as they are important to all communities and industries; vandalism of infrastructure can cause delayed service delivery.
