THE Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) hosted the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), Rev Musa Zondi to an oversight visit on Monday 2 September. The visit aimed to lay the groundwork for the new administration while providing an introductory platform for assessing the current state of the organisation.

This visit marks a pivotal moment for the RBIDZ as it sets the stage for a new era under the current administration, according to the EDTEA MEC Zondi emphasised the importance of the visit, saying, “This is not just a visit, but the beginning of a strategic alignment process that will drive growth and development in the KZN region.” The insights gathered during these site tours and discussions will be instrumental in shaping the RBIDZ’s role in KwaZulu-Natal’s economic landscape, according to the department.

Zondi was joined by the uMhlathuze Mayor, Xolani Ngwezi and the Acting Mayor of King Cetshwayo District Municipality, Sikhumbuzo Dlamini.

Leaders took the opportunity to evaluate the operations, challenges, and achievements of the RBIDZ, ensuring that the strategic direction aligns with the broader goals of the department.

As part of the visit, the delegation participated in a walk-about at the Nyanza Product Testing and Development Centre, followed by a tour of the Phase 1F site. These on-the-ground inspections provided invaluable insights into the ongoing projects and their potential impact on the region’s economic landscape. The tour then proceeded to the Phase 1A site at 1 Medway Road, Meerensee, Richards Bay, where the delegation further assessed the progress and strategic significance of these developments.
