Ladies and Gentlemen

I wish to greet you All this morning.

First and foremost, on behalf of the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone, Board of Directors and Executive Management I would like to take this opportunity and express our sincere appreciation to the Mayor, Councillor Ngwezi, all Councilors present and his Executive Management for honoring this dignified occasion this morning.

We further wish to congratulate the Honourable Mayor on his recent election and appointment together with his Council. We look forward to continued excellent cooperation between our two institutions.

We are also honored to have the presence of our Board Chairperson, Dr. Ngcobo as well as Mr. Mbatha who is the Chairperson of the Social and Ethics Committee responsible for matters of governance. They both took time to attend this engagement acknowledging its importance and relevance.

PURPOSE

Honourable Mayor, significantly platforms for engagements and talking are an integral element to the RBIDZ’s work in developing and strengthening partnerships, importantly when the mandate is clear that we are to change the lives of our people by implementing services and policies that benefit all. It is my wish that this engagement not only bolster stakeholder relations but also foster greater understanding of the RBIDZ’s vision, mission, its core values, key programmes, and developments.

Today’s engagement is one of many ushering a new era of an incredible story aimed at working as a collective towards our society’s journey. I am certain that all of us agree that we want to lay a foundation that is united, non-racial, and prosperous for our society. This can be achieved through our commitment to ensure a just and fair society for all, including the rights to dignity and basic needs.  We therefore have a responsibility to commit to working together towards eradicating the shackles of poverty through our programme of action.

Programme Director, the emphasis of this CALL is on the need for us to eradicate unemployment, economic poverty, energy poverty, fight issues relating to security by ensuring that our environment is conducive to work and live in. Together we need to find sustainable ways to overcome the triple threat of poverty, inequality, and unemployment.

RBIDZ MANDATE AND BUILDING SOUND RELATIONSHIPS

Chairperson, and honourable Mayor, we are gathered here with a very clear mind of our mandate and a significant role that we must play as the Richards Bay IDZ.

Our responsibly is to better the lives of our people and this responsibility will only be realised if we build sound relationships and collectively drive common interests, which is the reason why we are here today.

Today we are reminded of the enormous tasks and responsibilities tasked upon us for advancing development and service delivery to benefit our people.

For us as the Richards Bay IDZ we appreciate this interaction with the City of uMhlathuze leadership which is not only aimed at building and strengthening relationships, but critically to show commitment of the good intentions we have aimed at harnessing socio - economic challenges faced by our people.

Chairperson, our challenges as a country and the province are huge and therefore, we cannot spare any effort to address poverty and all its negative consequences, especially for the poorest of the poor.

Chairperson, and honourable Mayor together with local government structures, we must identify economic development opportunities to ensure that we create jobs and empower our rural communities. We must jointly embark on tangible opportunities to ensure that our people are empowered, critically our Youth that is our FUTURE.

WORKING TOGETHER

Honourable Mayor, we must work together in ensuring that our Region is not regarded as ungovernable and pose a threat to industrial activities that create opportunities for our people.

As leaders we must speak against societal challenges and come up with one VOICE that will usher Hope and stability.

In so doing we will be able to develop sustainable programmes, provide services to our people, encourage our people to be involved in the affairs of local government, promote effective and fair dispute-resolution systems and improve working relations aimed at nation building rather than reversing what we already have.

ONWARD RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

Honourable Mayor, we believe that we will be able to foster onward and harmonious relationships by contributing resources in an environment that supports the cause of the people as well as create an atmosphere that is conducive for industrial activities through on-going engagements.

MESSAGE OF POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC EMANCIPATION

Honourable Mayor, our message is very clear - a total freedom must reflect both political and economic emancipation. This basically entails in the main constant mobilization of young people to be the architects and masters of their own economic emancipation. And therefore, we need to work hard in accelerating transformation of the economy that will be inclusive.

CONCLUSION AND GRATITUDE

As I am about to sit down, As the RBIDZ we believe that in your collective support and strengthened collaborative efforts we will be able to take this Region forward.

We thank uMhlathuze Team for being an active partner over the years; and we have no reservations that we will continue to work together.

Honourable Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you all for gracing us with your presence.
