The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) proudly joined the International Coastal Clean-up Campaign hosted at Alkantstrand Beach, Richards Bay. This important initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), through the Community Services Unit of the City of uMhlathuze, united government, private sector and community stakeholders under one shared vision of protecting and preserving our coastline.

The International Coastal Clean-up Campaign is a global movement observed annually, and its primary aim is to remove litter and waste from coastlines, raise awareness about the impact of pollution on marine pollution and inspiring long term behavioural change. For RBIDZ, participation in this initiative resonates strongly with our mandate to drive sustainable industrial and economic development while safeguarding the natural environment.

This year’s campaign was made possible through collective partnerships with Mondi, Mondi, Grindrod, Mpact Recycling, uMngeni-uThukela Water, Tronox and various NGOs. Together, these stakeholders demonstrated the power of collaboration in tackling environmental challenges. By keeping our beaches clean, we secure the health, economy, and beauty of coastal communities for generations to come.

Sustainability remains a cornerstone of the RBIDZ’s operations. Our involvement in this campaign underscores our commitment to balancing industrial growth with environmental responsibility. By working together with government, industry, and communities, we continue to build a resilient and inclusive future where people and the environment can thrive.
